Every Sunday throughout our Diocese, in 187 parishes similar to Saint Nick’s, the faithful of our Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens come together to share the good news of our Catholic faith. But 365 days out of the year, members of our diocesan family and our own parish family are living out the Scriptures in ways that continuously respond and renew us in our faith. Last year alone, our Parish assisted our brothers and sisters in hearing the gospel through our parish religious education program and our parish school. We offer numerous prayer groups, opportunities to grow in faith and bible studies, and offer various retreat and prayer experiences. We reach out to the needy through our food pantry and an active St. Vincent de Paul society. We offer opportunities to our youth through youth center activities as well as a large sports program. We seek to welcome the immigrant through Mass in Spanish, as well as offering classes in English as a Second language.
Each year brings many known and unknown challenges to the local Church, and we are charged to do our part. Please reflect upon the importance of serving Christ as expressed in this year’s Appeal theme: Sharing Our Gifts to Build God’s Kingdom in Brooklyn and Queens. The Annual Catholic Appeal is a key way for our parish to share its gifts with others. Next weekend all will be asked to make a commitment to the important works of our Diocese through the Appeal. Please give, according to your means, to this important drive.
Finally, we have an important local project for the Annual Appeal. Any funds raised above our parish goal will be used for important Sound System upgrades in our Church and Hall. This special project will cost nearly $25,000 dollars—but is projected to practically eliminate the reverberation effects in our church. This would be a great enhancement to our worship experiences.
